File:Reagan National Airport mid air collision CCTV.webm has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
Thanks for uploading File:Igor Kirillov scoooter bomb video.webm. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).
Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

Thanks for uploading File:President Harding and Calvin Coolidge.webm. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.
Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

★Your nomination has been reviewed and promoted★ Congratulations! The image you nominated was reviewed and has now been promoted as a valued image. It is considered to be the most valued image on Commons within the scope: Category:Olympus_Tough_TG-6. If you would like to nominate another image, please do so at Valued images candidates.
Oppose Being the only image of a product model is not sufficient for VI. It also has to illustrate the subject well. In this case, where you control the conditions of subject presentation and photograph, the image should be better. The strap (distracting) should have been removed; there should be more space on the right side for balance and the camera, for a full frontal view, should be perpendicular to the camera, rather than tilted. Assuming you still have the TG-6, if you make a better image, I would support it. --GRDN711 (talk) 21:15, 26 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

JPG and TIF versions of the same files (fairly common for LOC and other older US Gov works) are not generally considered "duplicates" to be deleted; they should be linked to each other as "other version" field. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 18:10, 1 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Also, note that LOC has been gradually uploading more and higher res versions of old photos to their website. Versions uploaded more than a decade ago were often the highest res publicly available at the time uploaded. If better versions are now available and the old version is in use, overwriting with higher res of same is often a good solution. @JayCubby - According to the Commons description, the photo below of Emmett Till's parents was "named by Time magazine in 2016 as one of the 100 most influential photos of all time." Is it possible and worth you restoring and submitting for FP? (I don't have the tools/skills to restore.) - ERcheck (talk) 05:59, 3 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure what needs to be done. Any corrections/enhancements? I don't know that the quality is sufficient for FP (I'm relatively new to the FP process), but it is truly historical. - ERcheck (talk) 19:43, 3 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps you've sometimes wondered why I reject the requests. The images are mostly from a time when there were no better versions of them, like the Gandhi image from just now. Such images shouldn't be deleted on Commons, but rather tagged with "other version." Nevertheless, I think your version is better; I'd be happy to replace it in the different language versions for you. Regards: זיו「Ziv」 • For love letters and other notes17:36, 7 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked from editing Commons for 3 days. The reason for the block is available in the block log as is the name of the administrator who blocked you. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may add {{Unblock}} below this message explaining clearly why you should be unblocked. For more information, see Appealing a block.
How do you mean that involved? As said, some of the RfD's were justified, while some others were not. But the fact that you were targeting Andy is obvious, because, otherwise you surely would have nominated images with more care and there were no nonsensical rquests like this one --A.Savin20:56, 27 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@A.Savin, I would not call that nonsensical. My nominations may not have been perfect in all cases, but that is no reason for a block. If you look in my deletion request history, I have a slightly different view, which I'm working to correct, of what is considered DM. I have never been sanctioned for deletion request that fails, because there is at least valid reasoning behind each one.
By involved,
"I myself am being stalked by 1989 and Christian Ferrer, so I know very well what it is about"
Is the relevant quote. You are actively involved in a dispute which you consider similar, and may not be in a place to assess potentially similar cases.
yes, I was targeting andy. I was doing so in the sense that I was going over his uploads. I was not stalking him, nor was I intending to harass it. JayCubby (talk) 21:07, 27 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
It means then, my "involvement" is limited to the fact that I know how it feels if someone is monitoring your edits in order to do something against you, while most other admins actually don't know what it is (and as a result, we have what we have). So I think with 3 days it's a very mild sanction and I have chosen that deliberately, given the fact that some RfD's are ~in order --A.Savin21:33, 27 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@A.Savin, your involvement is more than past experience. You have made extensive, and are currently making them, in a thread pertaining to stalking.
considering that a user has already complained about my block, and that there have been substantial complaints about your previous actions, to the point where there's a UCOC case, are all good signs that this block should not have been made at all. JayCubby (talk) 22:58, 27 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Unblock request declined
This blocked user asked to be unblocked, but one or more administrators has reviewed and declined this request. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked. Other administrators can also review this block, but should not override the decision without discussion.
Request reason: "the blocking administrator is involved in a superficially similar dispute, resulting in effectively an involved block. Multiple users have said that my actions (reviewing a user's files) do not constitute harassment. Making reasonable deletion requests is not a blockable offense. JayCubby (talk) 18:01, 27 July 2025 (UTC)"Reply
Decline reason: "You correctly said: "Making reasonable deletion requests is not a blockable offense". As big part of you DR-s were not reasonable, I consider short block acceptable to avoid disruption. Taivo (talk) 15:32, 28 July 2025 (UTC)"Reply
Administrators: This template should be removed when the block has expired.

You are receiving this message because we noticed that you previously voted in the Picture of the Year contest. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2024) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
In this second and final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2024.

Thanks for uploading a new version of File:Sp_illum_10deg_2025_1080p30.webm. However, by setting the framerate to 30 fps, it no longer progresses at 1 day of simulation per second of animation. Can you please set the framerate to 12 FPS (the resulting video should be around 6m08s) but use the AV1 codec instead of VP9? Thanks, cmɢʟee ⋅τaʟκ21:09, 5 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello JayCubby. Of course they do that, but such changes should ideally be made as a new file. This way you're on the safe side, which no one will dispute, and the old version remains available on Commons, even if the file is subsequently replaced in the language versions. Thank you for your efforts. Look at it this way: your "Files uploaded by JayCubby" category would then contain more files. זיו「Ziv」 • For love letters and other notes16:03, 7 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for suggesting this update to our catalog record. I and a few other people took a look and while there is definitely a similarity between the man in our photo and Patrick DeLacey we don't believe they are the same man. The first reason is the man in our photo has a hat with the number 218. A veteran's hat number could correspond with the unit he was in or with the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Post he was a member of after the war. Patrick DeLacey was in the 143rd PA Infantry and the GAR did not have a 218th Post in Pennsylvania.
The man in our photo is not wearing a Medal of Honor, he's wearing the GAR medal, which looked very similar. A photo of both medals side by side can be found at https://npsgnmp.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/moh-and-gar-medals.jpg. We also think there's enough difference in the faces, especially since some of the photos of DeLacey online appear to have been taken only a few years before ours would have been.
Let us know if you have any other potential identifications. Ideally we would like all of our photos identified, but we don't want to put an incorrect identification on our catalog since our photos are used in many books and web pages.
Thank you for following up on this topic. I'm sorry I misidentified the medal, but I'm also surprised that they look so similar. Glrx (talk) 00:26, 22 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

File:Ames yearbook58 cropped.jpg - what exactly are you trying to do here? It's your responsibility when you edit an image, especially an image you didn't upload originally, to explain what is going on. Your edit summary was the supremely unhelpful "c:User:Rillke/bigChunkedUpload.js: fft", and your picture looks identical except it's larger. If you can't be bothered to collaborate, that's fine, but then don't edit other photos. Since you are insisting on this with edit summaryless reverts - what, exactly, did you change here and why do you think your picture is better? Information that could have been in your original upload summary? SnowFire (talk) 07:49, 10 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
On your second edit summary: Huh, my apologies. I did see your revert but the explanation was after the undo text and apparently my eyes treated it as a runon with the automatic text. I do think your first edit summary could have been more descriptive, but the second one was my bad.
That said, I still don't really see an improvement here. To be clear I could see that the image was different, just not meaningfully different or better. I'll leave it be but while I can see some subtle shading differences, it's not clearly "better" to my eyes, and the image size has increased. SnowFire (talk) 08:20, 12 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

ːMany thanks. That map looks good at first glance, though of course you can't do anything to get to the 'multiple' images. I can see where I've got some coordinates wrong, but for instance for the 4 images in the sea east of Cape Town, I can't identify the images to correct the coordinatesǃ
Charlesjsharp, you can download the CSV here. I will ask someone who does OSM/GeoJSON for a living. I have been relying on AI to format the map stuff appropriately, but have reached the limit of what I know how to do. JayCubby (talk) 13:28, 2 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

2024 Picture of the Year:Mundari man polishing the horns of one of his Watusi cows using a mixture of cow urine and ash as a ritualistic and protective practice in a temporary cattle camp in Terekeka, South Sudan.
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2025 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the twentieth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favourite images featured on Commons during the last year (2025) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just five images to become the Picture of the Year.

Hello JayCubby,
I am contacting you directly as you have been very helpful in the past with image fixes. I am looking for advice.
I took a picture in an art museum (iphone) of a painting and a glass vase. Later, I noticed that the vase artist had a wikipedia page with issues. I have rewritten his page and replaced a dark image with two new images, including mine. My image has problems--its not a good composition as I was not focusing on the vase at the time. I have tried cropping it for the rewritten page and I cropped too much.
What is the best way to present this vase? Is it a good idea to remove things in the background? How would you crop it? Does the image need brightening or sharpening?
Below is the original image, my draft with badly cropped image and the original wiki page.
@MauraWen, the common issue with museum photos is glare, which wasn't an issue here. It would be simple to remove the background (one of the things AI is very good at!) and replace with something more neutral. Archaeodontosaurus does many of those photos and can probably do better than me. JayCubby (talk) 19:27, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for inviting me to your discussion. AI is a great help with this type of image, but working piece by piece is rather time-consuming. The latest version you made is very acceptable. The only criticism is that you cut off the top of the vase: absolute respect for the artwork!
We also need to get used to abandoning our "old" cameras for our smartphones. I've been trying for a while now; it's not easy, because it's all in how you hold the smartphone. Whatever we do or say, photography is a wonderful world. --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 05:25, 1 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Archaeodontosaurus and JayCubby: Thanks for responding! I realized after I cropped the image that I cropped too much. That image is up for speedy deletion and I created a new cropped image for the wikipage with the top of the vase. I’ve given up on cameras myself. As a very amateur photographer, I find that my iPhone usually takes better photos than my $500 camera. MauraWen (talk) 22:47, 12 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@JayCubby, Not a problem. I have been on vacation, so I have not been checking my user page. That image looks great! Are you planning to add the image to Wikicommons? Or should I?
You have been very helpful with several of the old photographs I’ve used in articles, and I was wondering whether you enjoy working on historical photographs in general.
If so, I have a photograph of a photograph taken around 1915 at Robert Frost’s house in Franconia, New Hampshire. I’m trying to determine whether a wall surface visible in the image is wallpaper, stenciling, or something else, and I was hoping there might be additional detail that could be brought out through digital restoration or analysis. MauraWen (talk) 23:29, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@JayCubby I replaced the existing Marioni vase with your improved image. It looks great! Here are three images, two are from different framed photos at the Frost Place in Franconia, but they are the same image.
I was visiting the Robert Frost Place, his family home from 1915 to 1920 in Franconia, New Hampshire a few days ago. I was chatting with the director and she was talking about the interior photos. She said she would love to find out the name/company of the wallpaper in the background. I think she would probably put up a reproduction of the wallpaper in the historic home. This is not for a Wiki page, but I told her I was interested in researching the wall treatment for her. ChatGPT said this is probably Arts and Crafts wallpaper or stencilling. It could even be hand stencilling, but I think its a treatment or paper. I cannot see the wall texture or pattern very clearly. Any assistance you could give, I would appreciate it.MauraWen (talk) 01:01, 22 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@MauraWen, I would suggest looking into wallpaper books of the era (1910s Art Nouveau)

Hi everyone,
Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.
Here are your top three winning images:
First place: The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on October 9, 2023, leaving widespread destruction in the Rimal area. Attribution: WAFA (Q2915969) / CC-BY-SA 3.0
Second place: Baby cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) sleeping at Cape cross, Namibia. Attribution: Giles Laurent / CC-BY-SA 4.0
Third place: A gigantic jet photographed from the International Space Station by astronaut Nichole Ayers. Attribution: public domain
You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results
I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!

Could you please move that discussion away from the village pump and start a proposal at Commons:Village pump/Proposals instead?
I sort of intended for my thread to be focused on the gadget Bawolff said he would make and i feel discussing Special:MediaSearch there risks derailing the discussion Trade (talk) 02:50, 12 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

hello there !
This is some answer elements about how I work in restoration of old pictures.
First, I don’t use AI softwares only, and I use various softwares.
I chose mainly very damaged images, like very old daguerreotypes (by Mathew Brady or others), because it is more interesting for me.
I work a long time with GIMP, playing with curves and levels, in order to reveal hidden details of the picture (mainly the faces), wich I magnify at 400% or more.
I clean (by cloning out with the cloning tools) some scratches, tears, dust, spots etc…. After that I chose or QWEN or FLOW (which gives better results IMO, but has some strange limitations : sometimes it blocks arguing « personality rights » for pictures of persons dead since 150 years !). Qwen is often stupid, and gives idiot results.
Everything is in the prompts you write. you can find some on the Net, but I prefer write by myself, mixing my own will and Internet suggestions, it gives better results. but you have to be very meticulous in your order : if you forget something, the AI will play alone and give funny results. This is difficult for me as I am not an english native speaker (as you can read here !), and AI softwares prefer english for answering prompts. I change details of my prompts for each image, it depends of the quality of the original.
The mantra is Check, check, and check again !
After that, I often go back to « manual » work, again with GIMP, until I feel happy.
These processes are completely new for me, I am just a beginner, I hope I will improve the quality. Restoring pictures is really satisfying, because I pay tribute both to old photographers, and to forgoten but often very interesting persons I bring back to life (say).
