ANBP comment

[edit]

I linked the cu investigation on en.wiki and the image itself is direct evidence of socking if you take a sec to look at it. Please don't drop boilerplate nonsense responses on my posts. Geoffroi 19:40, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Then please report on your own.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 19:43, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Report what? Geoffroi 19:46, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sockpuppetry. ANB is not the place for such reports.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 19:50, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I reported the acct to AN/BP to see if admins wanted to block an obvious sock and delete obvious sock nonsense files. Why are you giving me a hard time? Geoffroi 19:48, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Because ANB is not the place for such reports.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 19:52, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's not the place to report an obvious sockpuppet with live unconstructive uploads clearly related to previous sockpuppetry? WTF? Geoffroi 19:54, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
The master isn't even blocked here yet.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 19:56, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
You must be right cuz you're always right. Right? Geoffroi 20:01, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
You need to stop being junior admin and wasting other people's time. Geoffroi 19:55, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
That order is out of line, kindly withdraw it.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 19:57, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Stop trying to bully me you asshole. Geoffroi 19:59, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) Hello Jeff, FYI, the header of Commons:Requests for checkuser does actually recommend going to the admin noticeboards when a technical puppet check may not be necessary: Checkuser is a last resort for difficult cases; pursue other options first, such as posting on the administrator's noticeboard. AN/BP is a subpage of the general noticeboard, so it's a legitimate venue to address sockpuppet concerns. Furthermore, there's " It looks like a duck to me" ({{Duck}}) listed as declining rationale in Template:CheckUser indicators, which constitutes strong evidence that behaviourally treated SPI are to be dealt with at e.g. COM:AN/BP (COM:ANV and COM:ANU are also IMO suitable points of contact, it should be up to the individual reporter where they post). Conclusion: your assumption of "ANB is not the place for such reports. Jeff G. / 19:50, 13 May 2026 (UTC)" is wrong. Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 02:23, 14 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Grand-Duc: It is not the place, because there are other places. I thought ANU was a slightly better place until I started looking into the content of the report. Because the activity is cross-wiki, I think m:srg is a better place.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 08:42, 14 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Help desk questions

[edit]

FWIW, a fair amount of the time I choose not to go looking through someone's contributions to find the context of an ill-framed question. I definitely try let them know what information is needed, but given that this probably isn't the only time we will be dealing with them I often want to prod them toward framing a coherent question, so we don't keep needing to review context ourselves every time they want something. - Jmabel ! talk 21:38, 14 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Jmabel: Got it, thanks.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 01:42, 15 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Why would you ever want to use File:North Pacific Brewery, ca 1865 (PROSCH 224) (cropped 2).jpg rather than File:Schmeig's Brewery, ca. 1870 - DPLA - c2ace4bb17b712d8bcc1901f13e36234.jpg (or a crop of the latter)? - Jmabel ! talk 16:01, 15 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Jmabel: I didn't notice the latter (which has more contrast and is larger), but the former shows a little more of the street (but small with low contrast).   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 16:29, 15 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Regarding the 2009 and 2013 Breyers logos

[edit]

After realizing I sadly don’t know/have the copyright status for both logos, I decided it’d be best if I request if they can be deleted instead. Nomination pages have been added and they’re up on the May 18 deletion request log. RobloxMiner$$ (talk) 05:04, 19 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@RobloxMiner$$: They were already deleted.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:57, 19 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks RobloxMiner$$ (talk) 15:32, 19 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

How can I delete edit summary history

[edit]

Hello Mr. @Jeff G., when I make an edit on Wikipedia and click the "Publish" button, it asks me to enter an edit summary, and I do. However, my previously written edit summaries appear again in that field. How can I delete these old summaries? These are not stored in browser cookies. EDCrasher (talk) 14:26, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@EDCrasher: These are due to an automatic (ostensibly helpful) feature of your browser; look in your browser's documentation.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:51, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, at first I thought this was caused by the browser’s autofill feature. However, when I tried it on a different browser, I noticed that the summaries I had previously written were still there. EDCrasher (talk) 14:59, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@EDCrasher: Then I am at a loss; try asking at COM:HD or m:Help Forum.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 15:06, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
